1872 wechselte Ludwig Dill vom Polytechnikum in Stuttgart auf die Münchner Akademie über. Bis 1874 war Dill Schüler bei Carl Raab, Otto Seitz und Karl Theodor von Piloty. Zusammen mit Gustav Schönleber spezialisiete sich Ludwig Dill auf klassische Marinest
