About the artist
Oswald Achenbach (1827-1905) was a renowned German painter and one of the leading figures of the Düsseldorf school of painting. Born in Düsseldorf, Achenbach showed early artistic promise and began his formal training at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art when he was just eight years old. His early works were influenced by the Romantic movement, but he soon developed a distinctive style that combined realism with a dramatic use of light and color.
